In a word, Home.
We are all looking for a place that we know that we belong. We are looking for that place where we are known, and loved, unconditionally.
We are looking for our family, and most importantly, Our Father.
Whether we admit that we need or want ties to a family and the love of a father, it is wired into us. We are looking for connection, because we are looking for God.
To be embraced, protected and cherished. To be respected and understood. To be found.
No human family can do this for us, no matter how loving, well adjusted and put together. No earthly father or mother is able to overcome their own sinful nature enough to nurture perfectly, when their children have their own sinful natures. It isn't possible, or to be expected. We have to do our best, we have to pray, and we have to live under the will of the Father who is perfect. Even if we do, those children are free to embrace or reject that will.
We all wander. We all struggle. There are dark valleys and mountains with so many dangers. There is a desert and desperate loneliness. In all of this is a lifetime of lessons, and hopefully wisdom that we gain as we learn them. Count it all joy, because the Father is calling, and when you turn toward the sound of His voice, and take the Savior's hand, you will surely be led out of the wilderness and into the Father's house, which is your truest home.
